Tantalum pentoxide is a high-performance functional ceramic widely used in electronic, optical, and protective coating applications. Owing to its high dielectric constant, Ta2O5 is extensively employed as a capacitor material in dynamic random access memory (DRAM) and low inductance decoupling capacitors, as well as gate insulator in thin-film and MOSFETs. In optical systems, its high refractive index, wide band gap, and low optical absorption enable its use in antireflective coatings for solar cells and imaging devices, optical waveguides, birefringent layers, and multilayer interference filters. Additionally, the excellent chemical stability of tantalum oxide makes it suitable for corrosion-resistant protective coatings and for use in thin-film wear sensors and chemical and biological sensing platforms.1
