Molybdenum selenide is a transition metal dichalcogenide (TMDC) used as a two-dimensional semiconductor material in field-effect transistors and next-generation electronic devices due to its tunable bandgap.

MoSe2 is fabricated into high-purity sputtering targets for the deposition of thin films used in photovoltaic cells and solid-state lubricant coatings.

Utilized in the form of monolayers or quantum dots for research into valleytronics and as a catalyst for the hydrogen evolution reaction.

Applied in the development of photodetectors and light-emitting devices because of its strong light-matter interaction and direct bandgap in monolayer form.
