Manganese chloride is used as a precursor material in the preparation of sputtering targets for the deposition of manganese-doped thin films in magnetic and magneto-optical applications.

Used as a precursor in the synthesis of lithium manganese oxide (LiMn2O4) and other manganese-based cathode active materials for lithium-ion batteries.
